Timeless Elegance for Your Wedding Day

There’s something undeniably special about pearls on a wedding day. Softly luminous and effortlessly elegant, pearl jewellery has long been a bridal favourite. The difference with today’s brides? They are styling pearls in ways that feel modern, personal, and uniquely their own.

Whether you’re planning a beachside ceremony, a formal celebration, or something in between, choosing the right pearl jewellery can elevate your entire bridal look.

This guide will help you find the best pearl pieces for your wedding day, and beyond.

Why Pearls Are Perfect for Brides

Pearls symbolise purity, love, and new beginnings – making them the meaningful choice for weddings. But beyond tradition, they offer something equally important: versatility.

Unlike trend-driven accessories, pearls move seamlessly from ceremony to celebration, and long after the wedding day has passed.

They complement every bridal style:

  • Minimal and modern
  • Classic and romantic
  • Bold and fashion-forward

Most importantly, they never date.

Choosing the Right Pearl Jewellery for Your Bridal Look

When selecting your bridal jewellery, it’s not about adding more, but rather choosing pieces that enhance your dress, your features, and your overall aesthetic.

A common approach for modern brides is to keep things refined and intentional - opting for either a necklace or pendant, or a pair of earrings styled with a bracelet. This creates a balanced, elevated look without feeling overdone.

Start with Earrings

Earrings are often the focal point of bridal jewellery, especially with hair styled up, down or tucked behind the ears.

For a timeless look, you can’t go past classic pearl stud earrings – understated, elegant and effortlessly wearable.

If you’re after something more contemporary, consider drop earrings or statement styles that frame the face and add movement.

Add a Necklace (If Your Dress Calls For It)

Not every dress needs a necklace – but when it does, the right piece can beautifully complete your look.

For lower necklines or minimalist gowns, delicate pearl pendants offer a refined finishing touch without overpowering your dress.

They’re ideal for brides who want something subtle, modern, and versatile enough to wear again after the wedding.

Keep Balance in Mind

The key to bridal styling is balance.

If your dress is detailed or textured, opt for simpler pearl pieces.

Alternatively, if your dress is clean and minimal, you can be more expressive with statement jewellery.

Many brides complete their look with a considered pairing - such as pearl earrings with a bracelet, or a pendant worn alone - creating a cohesive yet understated finish.

Pearls naturally soften a look, so even statement designs retain a sense of refinement.

Matching Pearls to Your Skin Tone and Your Dress

Not all pearls are created equal... and choosing the right tone can make all the difference.

Traditionally, pearls are selected to complement your skin tone:

  • Fair to cool skin tones are complemented by white or silver-toned pearls
  • Warm or olive skin tones pair beautifully with cream or golden pearls
  • Darker skin tones are flattered by richer hues or high-lustre white pearls

However, many modern brides are also choosing pearls to match their dress colour - whether that’s crisp white, soft ivory, or warm champagne tones.

The beauty of pearls is their natural variety. There is a shade to complement every gown, allowing you to create a look that feels seamless and thoughtfully styled from head to toe.

Honouring Heirlooms & Creating Something New

For many brides, jewellery is deeply personal. You may already have a cherished piece, perhaps something passed down through family, that you want to incorporate into your wedding day.

If you’re looking to build a matching set or can’t quite find what you’re after in-store, custom pearl jewellery offers a beautiful solution.

From sourcing the perfect pearls to designing a complementary piece, creating something bespoke allows you to honour tradition while making it your own.

Modern Bridal Trends: Pearls Reimagined

Today’s brides are embracing pearls in fresh, unexpected ways.

We’re seeing:

  • Baroque pearls for an organic, one-of-a-kind feel
  • Layered necklaces for a contemporary edge
  • Statement earrings paired with sleek gowns

Pearls are no longer just traditional... they’re expressive, fashion-forward, and entirely personal.

A Piece to Treasure Beyond the Wedding Day

One of the most beautiful things about pearl jewellery is its longevity.

Your bridal pieces won’t sit in a jewellery box after the big day – they become part of your everyday or occasion wardrobe.

Many brides also choose pearls as meaningful gifts for bridesmaids or loved ones. Explore our online catalogue for a glimpse of gifting inspiration.

Finding the Perfect Bridal Pearls in Australia

When choosing pearl jewellery, quality matters.

Look for:

  • High lustre (that soft glow pearls are known for)
  • Smooth surfaces
  • Well-matched pairs or strands

At Girls Love Pearls, each piece is thoughtfully curated to balance timeless elegance with a modern sensibility - designed to be worn, loved, and passed on.

Final Thoughts

Your wedding jewellery should feel like an extension of you - effortless, considered, and enduring.

Pearls offer exactly that. Whether you choose classic pearl stud earrings, a delicate pendant, a bracelet, or a bespoke piece designed just for you, you’re investing in jewellery that will hold meaning long after your wedding day.

Pearling Under the Southern Cross There are numerous and interlocking inspirations that brought this piece to fruition. Many of which, have been floating around in my imagination for long enough. I would like to thank the instigators and motivators behind the Australian Pearl Design Masters in allowing a platform for me to materialise all these ideas into this one special piece. Of which, I am very proud of. Firstly, the frame of the pendant is made of platinum. As well as being the body and frame of the piece, its symbolisms are many. It is the frame of the pearl net panels used to grow the South Sea pearl It houses the 5 round brilliant cut pink Argyle diamonds which represent the Southern Cross constellation a symbol of our National flag. The frame also denotes the Australian continent. With its North and South pointers. To the West is Western Australia, and Cygnet Bay. Represented by a Cygnet Bay grown, lustrous, Keshi South Sea pearl. To the East is New South Wales, and the Broken Bay Pearl farm. Represented by the 3 colours of the Akoya cultured pearl grown there. The frames strength, crafted in the strong, durable and precious metal - platinum - symbolises the Australian Pearl Growing industry itself. An industry by virtue of its essence of being environmentally friendly, sustainable and rare..indeed makes it a strong, durable and precious being. One of which we can all be proud to be associated with - as members of our Jewellery industry and as Australians! A ‘Keshi’ and ‘Nucleated’ pearls were both choose to represent the 2 types of cultured pearls possible as a result of in sighting the culturing process in an oyster. These four pearls together also represent the price points that all pearls in the market now create..meaning everyone, no matter the budget, can afford to now wear an Australian Pearl! The oxidised Sterling silver in the pendant body, twisted into runs of ‘twine’, represents the netting material used to make the Pearl growing nets. The larger, longer ‘rope’ forming the necklace attached to the pendant, signifies the ‘Long lines’. These lines, suspended by buoys, are used on the surface of the bays of the pearl farms, that these cages hang from whilst the pearls grow. The contrast between the ‘aged’ silver and the highly polished vitreous lustre of the platinum shows the juxtapotion between the ‘grunge romance’ that is true pearl farming and the gleaming and dazzling pearl jewellery bestowed to display in our regaled jewellers showrooms around this beautiful country. Always under the eternal and glittering cosmos, crowned by 5 regaled stars that form our ‘Southern Cross’. Mark Seddon August 2018
